Overview

Google Groups are essentially mailing lists. When an e-mail is sent to the mailing list, it is automatically distributed to the e-mail addresses of those in the Google Group. That way, you only have to remember one e-mail address.

As you might imagine, Google wanted to turbocharge the concept of a mailing list. In addition to functioning as a mailing list, Google Groups allow you to browse and search e-mails as well as update your own information. That way, if you change e-mail addresses, you won't be accidentally left out of the loop.

There are currently three Google Groups associated with the Olson Family Reunion:

How do I send an e-mail to everyone in the group?

Simply send an e-mail to , , or .

It will automagically be sent to everyone in the group.

Who is in the group?

If you are a member of a group, you can find out who is in the group by visiting the Google Group web page. Only members of the groups can view the membership lists or group e-mails.

(To visit the Google Group web page, you have to create an account and/or sign in. If you haven't created an account, don't worry, Google doesn't ask you for any personal information to create an account.)

The Olson Reunion Planning group currently consists of Poul Olson, Diane Brissenden, Carol Tulk, Charlie Olson, Collin Olson Starkweather, Dan Olson, David Olson, John Olson, Kevin Olson, Jennifer Littke, Constance Brissenden, Michelle Heller, Don Olson, Ron Cook, Sherry Olson, and Kathie Teslaw.

How do I view old messages?

After you sign in, you can browse and search messages with a simple interface. Note that only members of the groups can view group e-mails.

It tells me I need to sign in to do this? What do I do?

To create an account, go to the sign-in page. then click on "Sign up now". Then enter your e-mail address and a password. That's all there is to it. Are the Google Groups secure? I don't want spammers to get ahold of my e-mail address.

Yes.

Google goes to pains to ensure that the Google Groups are secure. The security setting of the groups have been set so that only members of the groups can view group e-mails. Even if you are a member of a group and sign in, you will notice that e-mail addresses in the group e-mails and membership lists are obscured.
